Belts colours are a source of great confusion and,
at times, contention. The table presented below is an attempt to show
the colour equivalents in various Kyokushin-based organisations, while
relating them back to the relevant kyu grades. This may not be
entirely accurate, since some organisations do not have a full 10 kyu
system; a new beginner, fresh off the street, may already be awarded
10th kyu in some groups, while in other groups, one has to earn
10th kyu. Additionally, some organisations only have an 8 kyu
system.
Please note however, that this is not a table
of training equivalences i.e. people with the same kyu grades
may not necessarily have same abilities or training time "under their
belts". The 10th kyu example above is a classic example thereof.
It is however hoped that by the time they reach the
higher kyu grades, students of all variations will have more or
less equivalent abilities and training time.

KYU GRADE
Multiple entries for the same region and affiliations simply means
that not everyone can agree on the usage. How unusual! |
